What Happened To Leon Brown After Sister Wives Season 18?
- Leon distanced themselves from Sister Wives due to their transgender identity, choosing safer spaces.
- Leon got married to Audrey Kriss in a private ceremony without any Brown family presence.
- Despite using their fame to advocate for causes, it’s unlikely Leon will return to Sister Wives in a significant role.
Leon Brown made their television debut during the 2010 premiere of the beloved unscripted series, Sister Wives, but where have they been since appearing on the show? Leon, who is transgender, was born as Mariah Brown on July 29, 1995, but stopped identifying as Mariah when they transitioned in 2022. Leon is the only child of Kody Brown and his first wife, Meri Brown. Leon’s father married three additional women, Janelle Brown, Christine Brown, and Robyn Brown, and had 18 children in total.
As the eldest of 18 Brown children, Leon grew up in a boisterous family, and things got even crazier when their family became subjects of Sister Wives. Leon was around 15 when Sister Wives premiered, and it must have been awkward to go through their teen years on television. Over the years, Sister Wives went on to chronicle the dissolution of the Brown family as three of Kody’s four wives divorced him, so Leon has an understandably complicated relationship with their time on the show.
Leon Distanced Themselves From The Show
Safe Spaces
In February 2023, Leon’s sister, Gwendlyn Brown, posted a YouTube video of herself reacting to an episode of Sister Wives season 17, episode 9. Gwendlyn is Kody’s daughter with Christine, his second wife. During the episode, Kody commented on Leon not fitting in with the family, and Gwendlyn vehemently disagreed. Gwendlyn explained that since Leon came out as transgender, they chose to separate themselves from the show and the family. Though Kody and his wives have said that they support same-sex marriage, the family is very Mormon, and the Mormon church has not traditionally welcomed LGBTQ people.
Gwendlyn, who is herself in a same-sex marriage with her spouse, Beatriz Queiroz, argued that it wasn’t that Leon didn’t fit in, but that Leon had chosen to spend time in safer spaces.
Leon Got Married To Audrey Kriss
Kody And His Wives Didn’t Attend Leon’s Wedding
In 2022, Leon married Audrey Kriss in a private ceremony that wasn’t attended by any of the Browns. Leon and Audrey are both transgender, with Leon coming out in 2022 and Audrey in 2021.
Leon met Audrey in college and, after dating for two years, they got engaged while attending the 2019 Women’s March in Washington, DC.
According to In Touch, Leon and Audrey were married in October 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. No one else was present during their ceremony, and there was no officiant to oversee their union. Instead, the wedding was recorded as being a “self-solemnized” event, which means Leon and Audrey essentially officiated their union without any witnesses being in the room.
Leon Has Become An Activist On Instagram
“We Will Keep Being Born”
Leon may have complicated feelings about the show, but they have used their time appearing on Sister Wives for good. They have used their fame to fight for causes that they care about. In July 2023, Leon posted an Instagram photo of themselves sitting in a rainbow pride flag hammock during gay pride.
“reminder that trans people cannot be legislated out of existence. we will keep being born, keep living, keep thriving, & finding our joy.”
Will Leon Ever Return To Sister Wives?
It’s Very Unlikely
Since growing up and moving away from home, Leon hasn’t made many Sister Wives appearances. Their most recent involvement with the show happened during COVID-19 when Leon and Audrey moved in with Meri during lockdown. Leon hasn’t appeared on Sister Wives since they transitioned, and though they may make an occasional appearance while visiting Meri, they are unlikely to play any significant role in the show moving forward.
Sister Wives seasons 1-18 are currently streaming on Discovery+.
