Jedidiah “Jed” Duggar and his wife, Katelyn “Katey” Duggar (née Nakatsu), are expanding their family in a big way!

PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that the 19 Kids and Counting alum’s wife is pregnant. But this time around, the pair are expecting twins.

“We have exciting news to share — we’re expecting! But we were not expecting this,” the couple exclusively tells PEOPLE of the baby news, which will also later be shared in full on their official YouTube channel. “We are overjoyed to announce that we have twin girls on the way!”

Jed — who has a twin brother, Jeremiah Duggar — continues: “As a twin myself, I’m especially thrilled to welcome these double blessings into our family! The bond between twins is truly special, and I can’t wait to see them grow and experience life together.”

Jed and Katey previously welcomed their son, Truett Oliver Duggar, in 2022 and their daughter, Nora Kate Duggar, in 2023.

“Our children, Truett and Nora, have no idea just how much their lives are about to change with the arrival of their new sisters,” the couple tells PEOPLE.

“We’re excited to watch their bond as siblings grow and to see the fun and love multiply in our home,” they continue. “This new chapter will bring endless joy and shared adventures for our whole family!”

For Jed and Katey, the couple is aware that expecting twins isn’t just a big deal for their growing brood but also for the entire Duggar family, many of whom attended a gender reveal celebration ahead of news going wide. (Photos from the occasion were taken by Alaythia Wissmann.)

“When we found out we were having twins, our excitement was overwhelming—especially knowing they will be the first twin grandbabies in the Duggar family,” the twosome adds. “We appreciate all of your prayers and support as we prepare for this wonderful new part of our family’s journey.”

The 25-year-old son of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar married Katey in April 2021 in a private ceremony attended by family and close friends. The wedding occurred after a quiet courtship between the two.

“For a long time I have prayed for my future spouse, not knowing who that person would be. God answered my prayers far beyond what I could have ever imagined in Katey,” Jed, at the time, captioned a photo of the couple on their wedding day.

“We have enjoyed quietly developing our relationship over the past year and every moment together has been amazing!” he continued. “I’m so grateful God brought Katey into my life and excited to share with you all that today she became my wife.”

Concluding with a message directed at his wife, the Counting On alum added: “Katey, the thought of sharing the rest of my life with you makes me the happiest man in the world! I love you so much! #happilyeverafter.”
