They rose to popularity with their rude banter and immature jokes. Perfect for reality television, Amy and Tammy Slaton are unapologetically themselves.
After hundreds of pounds of weight loss between the both of them, Amy’s journey in motherhood, many relationships, and mental health problems, the show has covered everything. So now that Tammy and Amy have come to the end of their journeys, there is not much left to tell.

1000-Lb Sisters started for one reason: weight. Amy and Tammy weighed over 1000 pounds, giving the show its name and central premise. As the show continued, the abrasive pair endeared themselves to fans with their relationships and goals as they began to lose weight. Both Tammy and Amy have lost weight, but Tammy has hit milestone after milestone.
The show is about weight loss, but now that Amy and Tammy have nearly ended their journey, not much remains. What is compelling about 1000-Lb Sisters is watching how weight and weight loss affect the everyday lives and relationships of the Slaton sisters. Love, children, divorce, and independence were all aspects of the Slaton sisters’ lives that changed as their weight did.
Tammy is about to get skin removal surgery, which will open her up to new experiences, and Amy has decided to prioritize her children and mental health above all else. Amy’s next steps are moving on from her divorce, becoming comfortable as a single mother, or finding a new relationship.

There Are Other Siblings in ‘1000-Lb Sisters’
Tammy and Amy are not the only sisters on 1000-Lb Sisters dealing with weight and life changes. Tammy and Amy’s sisters, Amanda Halterman and Misty Wentworth, and brother, Chris Combs, also went on weight-loss journeys. Chris received skin removal surgery in a recent episode of 1000-Lb Sisters. Should the show continue, Chris will recover, and his new life following surgery will end his storyline.
Despite her impressive weight loss, Misty Wentworth is too level-headed to guide the show with her story. With the other two siblings not heated enough to carry the show, this leaves only Amanda Halterman. Amanda is just as hot-headed as Tammy and Amy, a trait fans have come to expect from the Slatons. Unfortunately, though, Amanda’s weight-loss journey is also over as she had skin removal surgery first.
At its core,1000-Lb Sisters has always been about the family. Moving the main storyline from Tammy and Amy would not matter because the family as a whole is what is essential. The family has done everything it can do. While Tammy and Amy’s story is wrapping up, there is room for one of their siblings to step in and take center stage, but it would be impossible to be the star of 1000-Lb Sisters alone.
Despite some loose ends that need to be tied up, there is not much story left to tell for 1000-Lb Sisters because that is not what Amy and Tammy are anymore. There is a little story left before the story of 1000-Lb Sisters needs to end, but not enough to keep the show going for much longer.
Although there is room for Amanda to take the spotlight, she cannot do it alone. If the Slaton family wants to continue being on television, they need a new angle and show, but they do not have either. 1000-Lb Sisters airs on TLC and is available to stream anytime on Hulu.
