The holidays are a time for families to get together and share the love as well as food and drink. Of course, in daytime, soap family gatherings are often ground zero for some juicy drama! Whether it’s a heated confrontation, an emotional confession, or a shocking revelation, daytime celebrations are never boring! But which fictional family would be the best one to spend the holidays with?
Join us for a look at some of the more prominent families on General Hospital, The Young & The Restless, Days of Our Lives, The Bold & The Beautiful, All My Children, As The World Turns, One Life to Live, and Guiding Light to compare and contrast.
So whether you’re looking for a massive family celebration or an intimate gathering, drama-full or drama-free, check out our recommendations in the gallery below and see if you agree with them!

The Corinthos Family (GH)
If you’re attending a holiday bash at Sonny’s place, you might want to make sure you bring along some extra food and drink in case the cops show up unexpectedly. And be prepared for plenty of tension because if Carly and Ava are both in attendance, things might take a turn because the women in Sonny’s life don’t always get along. (Though hopefully, they’d call a truce for the day!)

The Newman Family (Y&R)
No expense will be spared at a Newman holiday party because there’s no way that Victor will let anyone in Genoa City show him up, especially not Jack Abbott. However, with siblings Nick, Victoria, and Adam never seeing eye to eye, you’re guaranteed there will also be plenty of drama, so if you’re looking for a quiet dinner and drinks, you might want to look elsewhere!
-
The Forrester Family (B&B)
The Forresters have a lovely tradition where when they’re all gathered around the table, they are supposed to say something nice about the person next to them. The thing is, that rule doesn’t always apply when folks aren’t sitting down to eat, so you can get an earful of gossip during cocktails! Especially since this year, the family doesn’t have a whole lot to celebrate after Carter stole Forrester Creations out from under them! But if you’re really lucky, Eric might lead a sing-along at the piano. Oh, and be sure to save room for dessert — Pam’s lemon bars may not be a traditional holiday treat, but they’re absolutely delicious!
-
The Snyder Family (ATWT)
Not only is the Snyder kitchen super homey, but Emma is also a fantastic cook. And you definitely want to be there for the traditional carving of the Hubbard squash. Just brace yourself for the possibility of some drama in case Lily and Holden can’t keep whatever their current crisis is under wraps for the duration of the holiday. But once Carly arrives with Jack, that’s when the party will really get started!

The Spaulding Family (GL)
You can never really be sure how crowded a Spaulding holiday gathering is going to be because you can never be sure how many of the many Spaulding relatives are going to show up at the mansion. Sadly, patriarch Alan is no longer with us, but don’t worry, Phillip will pick up the slack, However, don’t expect Alex to let Beth get away with being the lady of the house when it comes to being the hostess with the mostess!
-
The Kane Family (AMC)
Okay, technically this should be Kane-Montgomery, and there are some Laverys in there too, but you try telling Erica she has to share top billing! With multiple generations, there will be plenty of cute kids running around the house to offset any of the drama that the adults bring with them. And if there’s no drama, we’re sure Erica will be a gracious host and create some!
-
The Buchanan Family (OLTL)
The Buchanans’ bash will likely be held at Vicki’s palatial home, because it’s probably the only location spacious enough to hold the entire family! Keep an eye out for any sibling rivalry between Jessica and Natalie, though. And be sure to bring your dancing shoes if you want to join Bo and Nora for a turn on the dance floor!
-
The Abbott Family (Y&R)
The Abbotts have had more than their share of family drama during the year, but they can usually put it all aside for the holidays. Especially with Traci on hand to play peacemaker, a role she’s perfected over time. Of course, unexpected or uninvited guests will often put her to the test!
-
The Bauer Family (GL)
Although the Bauer clan is better known for their famous Fourth of July barbecues, they’d still be a great bet for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or even New Years. We’re not sure how good a cook Ed is beyond grilling burgers, but Michelle could probably pitch in. And Rick will keep everyone in stitches with his dad jokes while they stuff themselves silly. Plus, as a bonus, if anyone gets sick from overeating, there are multiple doctors in this family!
-
The Horton Family (DAYS)
There may be some drama at the Horton family gathering, but they’re usually good about putting the major crises aside and just enjoying some good old-fashioned love and happiness. Just make sure you’ve got a drink before everyone starts hanging their personalized ornaments because with a family this big, it can take a while!
-
The Quartermine Family (GH)
If you’re looking for elegant, well… the Quartermaine mansion may not be your best bet. At least not at Thanksgiving, where something inevitably goes wrong to ruin dinner forcing the family to order pizza! Christmas, on the other hand, might be okay. Especially if they let Olivia in the kitchen to whip up some of her Italian specialties! Of course, be prepared for some drama because with a family this big, it’s bound to blow up at some point!
-
The Chandler Family (AMC)
If you want drama with a capital “D”, this is the party to RSVP for! Adam and JR will probably be at each others’ throats, and while Brooke will try to keep things from getting too out of control, she’s only one woman. But if it all gets to be a bit much, you can always hang with Stuart and just chill out for a bit. Oh, and keep an eye out for Annie if she decides to show up uninvited. She may say she’s cured, but you never know!
-
The Hughes Family (ATWT)
Honestly, a Hughes family holiday is probably your safest bet for a reasonably drama-free party. Tom and Margo have been happily wed for what seems like forever, and Bob and Kim have been married even longer than that! Sadly, Hughes matriarch Nancy has left us, and her loss is still keenly felt to this day, but grande dame Lisa will more than pick up the slack. And maybe the party will have a special visit from cousin Frannie!
-
The Fisher and Baldwin Families (Y&R)
One thing you can be sure of if you attend this holiday get-together — it will definitely not be boring! Gloria will be sure to keep everyone on their toes. Heck, one year she even popped out of a giant gift-wrapped box to surprise her kids! The drinks will be flowing and a good time will be had by all… well, that is if Gloria can keep from stirring up trouble as she often does!
-
The Lewis Family (GL)
Don’t worry, for the holidays the Lewises will throw a better spread than some fried chicken and lemonade at a picnic bench in the park. Although it might be a little chilly up at Cross Creek, it would be a lovely location for a Christmas party. And while Marah, Shayne, and Jonathan will try to be on their best behavior, you can be sure that at some point Reva will be the life of the party!
-
The Cramer Family (OLTL)
La Boulaie is a fabulously elegant venue for a holiday party, and you know Dorian would put on quite a spread! Also, even though Todd and Blair would also put in an appearance at Viki’s shindig, Dorian’s probably the only one who would be able to keep them from causing any drama. Oh, just be careful on those stairs — they’re pretty steep!
-
The Martin Family (AMC)
It’ll be worth attending a Martin party just to see what Opal is wearing. But if you’re in the mood for a warm, heartfelt holiday gathering, this is the one to check out. Just be warned that you may not recognize Jamie if he comes home for a visit. Oh, and if you stay overnight, don’t let Dixie make you pancakes for breakfast!
