Kody Brown Lawyers Up Against Christine Lawsuit

Reportedly, in online court documents viewed by The Ashley, Kody Brown appeared in court with a new lawyer by his side on October 13. Kody has hired a Utah-based lawyer to represent him in the lawsuit that his former wife, Christine Brown Woolley filed against him on September 16. Now, Kody and his lawyer filed a counterclaim to Christine’s lawsuit. According to The Ashley, Christine submitted the court documents using her married name, “Christine Woolley.” She filed a “Petition for Declaration of Paternity, Child Custody, Parent Time, and Support” against Kody.

Kody Brown Is Going Through Paternity Testing

Within the petition, Christine Brown Woolley is demanding a paternity test from Kody Brown. She wants it in writing that Truely is his biological daughter. Since Christine was Kody’s third wife in their plural marriage, there was only a “spiritual union” between them and no legal paper trail. While that has benefited her in some ways, it is a drawback with legal work regarding child support since he isn’t on the birth certificate. Seemingly, Kody is complying with the request because a fee was paid for “something paternity-related” regarding the case.

While Christine Brown Woolley and Kody Brown live public lives for TV, they are taking steps to conceal information. Christine or Kody have requested that family information be marked as “not public” for the court documents. It is not available to be viewed by anyone other than the courts or Kody and Christine and their legal counsel. However, The Ashley confirms the case includes “Domestic Relations Injunction” which was also filed with Christine’s paternity suit. With this attached, neither party is allowed to “harass, intimidate or disturb the peace of the other party, by any means, including electronically.” Furthermore, it prohibits both parties from committing “domestic violence or abuse against the other party or a child.”

Watch Your Words

Additionally, the injunction makes rules clear for both parties, Kody Brown and Christine Brown Woolley, in dealing with Truely during the active court case. Specifically, neither parent can take Truely on a trip without consent from the other parent. Furthermore, the parent requesting must give specific travel details and a way of contacting Truely during the travel. It also states they cannot say anything to “demean or disparage (talk badly about) [about] the other party” in Truely’s presence. Likewise, nor can Kody or Christine “attempt to influence the children’s preference regarding custody or parent time.”

Even more so, neither parent should say “anything that would negatively affect the love and affection of the children for the other party, or involve the children in the issues of the petition.” However, Christine has been publicly referring to Kody as a “deadbeat dad” during her Sister Wives media tour. Furthermore, she is asserting that Kody is not financially supporting Truely or even spending regular time with her.

Fans Wonder About The Fate Of Sister Wives

  • On Reddit, one fan says, “This’ll be the end of the show. Everyone will have to censor themselves in confessionals and no one will want to risk being in the same room.”
  • “If a kid unaliving himself didn’t end the show I have my doubts that this will.”
  • Although someone wonders if Christine is questioning if Kody is the father, someone explains, “That’s standard when the father isn’t on the birth certificate. They have to establish the parentage before they can rule on custody and child support.”
