Seeking Sister Wife: Did Dannielle And Garrick Merrifield’s New Baby Announcement Chase Nathalia Lima Away?

Seeking Sister Wife stars Dannielle Merrifield and Garrick Merrifield welcomed a beautiful baby girl in 2023, but the fact that they had another baby together might have scared Nathalia Lima away. The Merrifields made their television debut during Seeking Sister Wife season 3 and returned for seasons 4 and 5. Their search for an additional wife to add to their family has led to multiple relationships with various women throughout the years, some of whom spoke little to no English.

During a recent episode of Seeking Sister Wife season 5, 40-year-old Garrick traveled to Brazil to marry Nathalia, his 26-year-old girlfriend. His 35-year-old wife, Dannielle, announced her pregnancy to Garrick on a video call. The Merrifields have two teenage sons together, but it was no secret that Garrick wanted to have more children. Nathalia may have shied away from interfering in a growing family’s life.

The Merrifields made their television debut in Seeking Sister Wife season 3, during which they dated potential second wife Roberta Pache, and the relationship continued during season 4. Roberta lived in Brazil, spoke no English, and could only communicate with the Merrifields via translation apps. Despite all that, Garrick ended his 13-year marriage to Dannielle, so he could legally marry Roberta for immigration purposes. She never immigrated to the United States, so that decision was pointless.

 

At the end of Seeking Sister Wife season 4, Roberta broke things off with the Merrifields via text message, after accepting their financial help to the tune of many thousands of dollars.

After their experience with Roberta, Dannielle was understandably a little gun-shy when it came to jumping back into the search for a new sister wife. She wanted them to take things a little slower, but Garrick pushed ahead, setting the stage for trouble. He almost immediately found another Brazilian woman who spoke little English. Unlike the age-appropriate Roberta, Nathalia was almost 15 years his junior. Despite Dannielle’s overt discomfort, Garrick proposed to Nathalia with a ring that he knew she wouldn’t like, and Nathalia said yes.

“A Baby Surprise”

Dannielle broke the news of her pregnancy to a shocked Garrison during an online FaceTime chat. Garrick had left for Brazil over six weeks ago, and, according to Dannielle, the Seeking Sister Wife season 5 stars had barely spoken since he had left. The initial plan was for Dannielle to travel to Brazil with Garrick, but the two weren’t in a good place, so they decided that Garrick would go alone. Just as it looked like Garrick and Dannielle’s 16-year relationship was on the rocks, the Merrifields were pregnant with their third child.

After the episode aired, TLC posted adorable photos of the Merrifields and their baby on Instagram. They did this in April 2024, with a caption that read, in part, “A baby surprise.” According to People, Garrick and Dannielle’s adorable baby daughter, Leia Lilly Melisa Merrifield, was born on May 17, 2023. Due to the season not being aired yet, the couple had to keep their baby a secret from the public, which probably wasn’t easy.

After Dannielle made her big FaceTime announcement, she got on an airplane and flew to Brazil. She wasn’t sure if she should go, but worked through her uneasiness. It was awkward from the moment she arrived at the rental house. After an overly enthusiastic hug from Nathalia, and an almost clinical kiss from Garrick, the three Seeking Sister Wife season 5 stars sat around to discuss the big baby news. When Dannielle claimed this was a big surprise, Nathalia disagreed. She pointed out that Garrick and Dannielle slept together without protection, so they should have seen it coming.

Getting the sense that Nathalia was blaming her, Dannielle immediately regretted her trip to Brazil.

Nathalia couldn’t make her displeasure any clearer. She implied that Dannielle had gotten pregnant on purpose, and she was not the only one who thought so.

Some Fans Think So Too

Some Seeking Sister Wife fans share Nathalia’s view that Dannielle got pregnant to keep Garrick, and they’re posting about it on social media. In the comment section of the TLC Instagram post announcing the Merrifield baby, one fan wrote, “She had to stop him from starting a new life in Brazil somehow.” The comment had over 1200 likes, so it really struck a nerve. The comment section had plenty of similar comments.

It’s clear that many fans agree with Nathalia’s implied assessment that Dannielle’s pregnancy was no accident on Dannielle’s part.

Another theory is that Dannielle got pregnant for financial reasons. After Garrick legally divorced Dannielle, he cut off her claim to his estate. With her teen sons nearing the age of majority, some fans accuse Dannielle of getting pregnant on purpose, so she could at least go after Garrick for child support.

The last aired episode of Seeking Sister Wife season 5 ended with Garrick’s marriage to Nathalia being denied by a Brazilian judge. Though Dannielle tried to hide it, she was obviously thrilled about the turn of events. It’s unclear if Garrick’s relationship with Nathalia continued, or where Nathalia fits into this new family dynamic. She’s not mentioned in the People exclusive post-baby interview, and makes no appearances on Garrick or Dannielle’s Instagram accounts. That being said, if they can keep the baby a secret, they could easily keep their relationship with Nathalia under wraps too.

 

Nathalia had always seemed less interested in the polygamous lifestyle, and more interested in having Garrick all to herself.

 

Regardless of Garrick and Nathalia’s relationship, he’s unlikely to stop looking for new wives and making Dannielle miserable. In an interview with producers during Seeking Sister Wife season 5, Garrick says, “I really feel like God promised our family, uh, more than just Dannielle.” He added, “I mean, I had a vision years ago that I had five wives and they were good.” Garrick appears determined to continue down the path of polygamy, and Dannielle seems unable to stop him.
