Kamar de los Reyes Dead At 56
The soap industry, and the world, suffered a massive loss on December 24, 2023. Actor Kamar de los Reyes passed away at the young age of 56 after a short battle with cancer. No one outside his close friends and family even knew he was sick. He starred as Antonio Vega on the now-defunct soap opera One Life To Live for 14 years.
Michael Easton, who now portrays Hamiton Finn on General Hospital, appeared alongside Kamar de los Reyes on OLTL. Easton played John McBain from 1999 until 2012. However, their friendship actually dates back to 1990! In Michael Easton’s first official acting credit, he starred alongside his future OLTL co-star in the movie Coldfire.
The General Hospital star spoke about his long-time friend earlier this month at the Daytime Stands Up: A Benefit for Stand Up to Cancer – We All Have a Story live stream event. According to PEOPLE magazine, Michael Easton had this to say about the decades-long friendship: “It was a 30-year friendship with Kamar. We did our first movie together in 1990. I was scared and I was quiet, and I was instantly drawn to his bravado and his sense of himself. Kamar was larger than life,”
“He was the best man at my wedding, and I’m godfather to his son Michael. His loss was profound on all of us,” he added. Before his death, Kamar de los Reyes had a recurring role on the CW show All American. Michael Easton noted that his friend continued to work up to two weeks before passing away.
The GH star expressed his awe at his friend’s bravery amid his cancer battle. “He was fierce to the end. He never talked about being sick. Even though the odds were stacked from the very beginning, and it’s still really hard for me to talk about, but I was in awe of his strength and his resolve. I would’ve shut down long before he did,”
Michael Easton Shares Friend’s Final Moments
Michael Easton revealed during the Stand Up To Cancer event that he was present when his friend passed away. “I was holding his hand when he passed, and he was surrounded by family and friends. There was so much love around him. I mean, he touched so many lives,” he shared.
He also revealed that many former OLTL co-stars came to the funeral. Kamar de los Reyes met his future wife, Sherri Saum on the ABC soap. They married in 2007. The couple welcomed twin sons in 2014. He also has a son from a previous marriage.
