As longtime My Big Fat Fabulous Life fans know, Whitney Thore’s mother, Barbara “Babs” Thore, passed away in December of 2022. She was 76 at the time of her passing, and, understandably, it was a loss that Whitney took very hard.

One thing about the loss that Whitney has been very open about with her My Big Fat Fabulous Life fans is that the stress and sorrow over losing her mother is one of the big events that led to her dropping an extra 50 pounds. So, despite the tragedy, she was able to use it to help her drop weight on the scale.

While Mother’s Day is an annual day to recognize mothers and all that they do, it’s especially hard for people who have lost their mothers, like Whitney. The one thing that My Big Fat Fabulous Life fans say often is how much Whitney and her mother look alike. If one did not know any better, it would be easy to mistake Whitney’s mom for Whitney and vice versa. Particularly as Whitney has dropped weight, commenters have noted how much more Whitney does look like her mother, and these throwback pics certainly prove it.
