Leon Brown Shares What Got Them Through ‘Some of My Darkest Days’
Leon Brown is sharing how music has helped them through their tough times.
In a series of photos posted to Instagram, the 28-year-old Sister Wives alum opened up about the transformative experience of seeing their favorite artists Joy Oladokun and Brandi Carlile take the stage at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, Colorado.
“I’ve been trying all week to find the words to describe seeing @joyoladokun for the second & third time & seeing @brandicarlile for the first time last weekend & i just don’t think words cut it honestly,” they captioned a carousel that included videos of the performances and selfies with their partner, Audrey Kriss.
Leon continued, “Joy’s music has gotten me through some of my darkest days. i sobbed watching them play ‘somehow’ at red rocks. as a queer kid who was also raised in a church that taught me to hate myself, joy’s music deeply resonates with me.”
“i can’t really think of words other than— thank you, joy, for creating art so life-affirming & hope giving, your music has truly changed my life,” they concluded.
Leon, the only child of Meri and Kody Brown, came out as transgender in June 2022 in an emotional post shared to Instagram.
“Someone recently told me that i didn’t have to have all of my s— figured out in order for me to share myself with the world,” they captioned a series of photos of them posing against a door. “So here’s me, definitely not having almost any of my s— figured out, to let you know that i am trans.”
“My name is Leon or Leo (i love both) and my pronouns are they/them,” they added.
The television personality continued by reflecting on the first time they knew they didn’t identify as a girl: “I was pretty young & unfortunately i grew up in a context that was incredibly gendered & restrictive.”
“So i continued to be socialized as a girl & later a woman. and here’s the thing, i’m finally ready to share my favorite self with the world. and that self is incredibly genderqueer, trans, and unapologetic,” they explained.
“Being queer & trans are definitely some of my favorite parts of myself. and yet, there are so many things that i am learning to love about myself through this process,” they continued. “Here’s to me getting to know myself, share myself, and continually evolve to be the person i am, to be my favorite self in all contexts.”
