Grey's Anatomy

Is ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ on tonight (March 21, 2024)? Episode details for ‘Keep the Family Close’

Is “Grey’s Anatomy” on tonight (March 21, 2024)? YES. ABC‘s long-running medical drama airs its 422nd episode, titled “Keep the Family Close,” on Thursday night. Here is the official synopsis: “Bailey tells the interns they must complete dozens of basic procedures before being allowed back in surgery. Meanwhile, things are awkward between Simone and Lucas, and Amelia comes up with a solution to a complicated surgery.” Watch the promo video above for Season 20 Episode 2, and read on for everything to know about “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Note that the new season was delayed until mid-season due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes of 2023. Because of the late start, the 20th season will be the shortest since the first season with only 10 episodes total. Behind the scenes, Meg Marinis has taken over as showrunner from Krista Vernoff, who departed after Season 19.

Only three original cast members from the first season in 2005 are still a part of the ABC drama in 2024: Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey (who will keep doing the weekly voice-overs even though she departed as a series regular last year), Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey, and James Pickens Jr. as Dr. Richard Webber. In Season 19, the show welcomed five new interns played by Alexis FloydNiko TerhoMidori FrancisAdelaide Kane and Harry Shum Jr.

Who has died on “Grey’s Anatomy”? Through the years, fans have watched in shock and awe as some of their favorite characters were killed off, often under violent circumstances. T. R. Knight‘s George O’Malley was hit by a bus, Eric Dane‘s Mark Sloan and Chyler Leigh‘s Lexie Grey were both in a plane crash, Patrick Dempsey‘s Derek Shepherd was in a car crash, and Giacomo Gianniotti‘s Andrew DeLuca was stabbed.

How many spin-offs are there? Due to its extreme success, “Grey’s Anatomy” has spawned two spin-off series: “Private Practice” (2007-2013) and “Station 19” (2018-2024). The flagship show has engaged in multiple crossover stories with both spin-offs through the years.

How many Emmy Awards has “Grey’s Anatomy” received? The show has won five trophies through the years for Katherine Heigl (2007), Loretta Devine (2011), casting (2006), prosthetic makeup (2010) and non-prosthetic makeup (2010). At the 2023 Emmys (held in January 2024), five of the original cast members appeared on stage for a fun reunion (watch below).
