Sonny Corinthos’ health has been an ongoing storyline in recent episodes of General Hospital. Fans have already been concerned about what this could mean for the character for quite some time. Now, some suspect recent event could spell doom for Maurice Bernard’s character.
Sonny Has Been Part Of General Hospital Since The Early 1990s
Benard was first cast as Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital back in 1993. Barnard has been so heavily tied to the character his own son, Joshua, played a younger version of Sonny, one of the few times Maurice himself hasn’t played the character.
The mob kingpin would gradually become a central character on the soap. However, some fans fear his story could soon be coming to an end.
As noted by Coming Soon, Sonny recently endured a dramatic collapse on General Hospital. This already put the character in danger, but he has also endured much stress from recent storylines.
As previously reported, Sonny is initially reluctant to get treatment for his chest pains. This could ultimately have dangerous implications for the character, as things could reach a point where it is too late to receive treatment.
Sonny’s adoptive son Michael was recently burnt alive in a fire set at Sonny’s own penthouse. Following this, Michael’s treatment plan has also sparked conflict within the family, particularly Carly and Willow.
Waking from a medically induced coma, Michael also brings up Sasha. As the publication noted, this could lead to hidden truths coming to light.
Some Fans Suspect Things Will Eventually Reach A Breaking Point
Sonny’s recent collapse, due to chest pain, also occurred in private, leaving his fate ambiguous for the time being. While Sonny has faced similar challenges before, in both his professional and personal life, things could finally reach their breaking point.
At this time, Maurice Bernard hasn’t commented on leaving the soap. Similarly, statements from the showrunners suggested Sonny would survive, at least initially, his upcoming health crisis.
As previously reported, co-head writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten previously talked about Sonny’s health crisis with TV Insider. It was noted, “Sonny is hit with an existential crisis that has him re-examining his personal and professional lives. He’ll be forced to make a big decision about his future; and anything that impacts the reigning mob boss of Port Charles will impact everyone on the canvas.”
There are also other ways the character could potentially be killed off. With many characters being killed off the soap in recent months, Sonny’s enemies could also use his health concerns as a cover to do away with him.
For the time being, this does keep things uncertain. While Sonny’s health issues might not be immediately dangerous, they could eventually reach a breaking point. In the end, only time will tell what the character’s fate will be on the soap.
