Tristan Rogers First Appeared On General Hospital In 1980
Rogers was born in Melbourne, Australia. He first broke into soaps in his home country, appearing in shows like Bellbird, Number 96, and The Box.
For many, however, Rogers’ big break would be playing Robert Scorpio on the American soap, General Hospital. He first appeared on the soap in 1980 and continued to appear on the soap throughout the decades.
In addition, Rogers would become known for playing Colin Atkinson on The Young and the Restless during the early 2010s. He has also established himself as a voice actor over the years, such as appearing in Disney’s The Rescuers Down Under.
Recently, Rogers became the subject of claims online that he has passed away. This came out amid reports from this past July that he had been battling with a cancer diagnosis. At the time, there was some concern over whether he would continue with his role on General Hospital.
The Actor Had Been Subject To Death Rumors In The Past Few Months
It has been claimed on social media from reporter George Pennacchio that, “I am sad to report the passing of soap great Tristan Rogers, who so famously played Robert Scorpio on “General Hospital” over a span of 45 years.”
The post continued, ” His longtime manager, Meryl Soodak, told me he died this morning at the age of 79 after a battle with lung cancer. She noted that Tristan was never a smoker. Of his role on the show, Meryl told me, ‘It meant everything to him.’”
“[Soodak] added, ‘He loved being Scorpio and he created that role from nothing. He was supposed to work a day and he ended up making it into something huge. He was just a genuinely loyal, kind human being and he loved his family.’” It was then shared that Rogers was survived by his wife, children, and a grandchild.
However, people on social media took issue with the story. While many showed condolences, others noted his death wasn’t being reported on by other sources.
As one commenter shared, “This is the only place I have seen this. According to Google, he is still alive for now.” Another wrote, “I just googled him. He’s still alive.”
Another issue with the story was that reports of Rogers’ death had come out in previous months. As seen on social media, some reports came out in June with a death hoax.
However, the showrunners of General Hospital have confirmed the passing of Tristan Rogers.
Fellow actors who worked with Tristan have also shared their condolences.
