Grey’s Anatomy star Kim Raver teases explosive finale

Grey’s Anatomy spoilers follow.

Grey’s Anatomy star Kim Raver has teased the show’s explosive season 20 finale.

The hit ABC medical drama returned to screens last month for its milestone season, which hasn’t been short of drama.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Raver, who plays Grey Sloan Memorial’s Chief of Surgery Teddy Altman, revealed that the storylines will reach “boiling point” during the finale — which took the cast by surprise.

“This finale of season 20 just doesn’t disappoint. It’s another classic Grey’s Anatomy. There’s so many things that come to a boiling point, that sort of explode, in the finale. Even us as actors, we’re like, ‘Wait’,” she said.

“[The writers] did just an incredible job of, in such a short season, sort of weaving all of these storylines and carrying over from the premiere to what’s happening [now]. It’s very entangled and very exciting. It’s really a great finale.”

This season, the interns were faced with a frightening situation after Raver’s character Teddy suffered a life-threatening medical emergency as she prepared to operate on a dying patient.

Teddy ultimately survived her medical crisis after undergoing a major operation, and has now begun her recovery.

“The fact that, in her coming back [into the season] in recovery, which is very dramatic and painful, there’s also some very fun comedic moments,” said Raver on Teddy’s medical journey this season.

“It’s a really great evolution to see and a great story to tell. She’s always been such a badass, so it’s really fun to see her working her way back.”

It was confirmed earlier this month that Grey’s would return for a 21st season, with Deadline reporting it’s likely to have 18 episodes. This marks a major increase from the 10 episodes in season 20 due to last year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

While Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital won’t be closing its doors anytime soon, spin-off series Station 19 will be coming to an end later this year after seven seasons.

Grey’s Anatomy season 20 and Station 19‘s final season are airing on ABC in the US. Both shows stream on Disney+ in the UK.
