GH’s Veteran Lane Davies Spills the Beans on His EPIC Comeback!
General Hospital fans are in for a treat this week as Lane Davies reunites with Nancy Lee Grahn on screen! The first pair worked together on Santa Barbara, where their characters, Mason and Julia, became the soap’s most beloved supercouples. Davies later joined the GH cast in 2002 for a two-year stint as Dr. Cameron Lewis. Now, the actor is back on daytime TV, playing Fergus Byrne! Read further to get the lowdown!
General Hospital: Lane Speaks About His Return
Lane’s General Hospital character Fergus is the brother of Neil Byrne who tragically overdosed in Alexis’s bed. It turns out the soap actor himself isn’t entirely sure how this comeback to Port Charles happened! Davies called it a combination of factors, one of them being Nancy’s insistence on bringing Lane back. “So that always helps when a 28-year veteran of the show wants you back.”
Additionally, Davies bumped into departing GH co-head writer Patrick Mulcahey at Bridget Dobson’s funeral. Dobson, the co-creator of Santa Barbara, and Mulcahey had written for both Davies and Grahn. Lane recounted, “We had a lovely lunch and visit, even though it was kind of a sad time.” He believed Patrick saw him and thought about bringing him back to the soap.
The GH luminary continued, “I’m honestly not sure, but I think it was a fortuitous combination of factors that got me back.” Furthermore, Davies admitted to being at a stage where he’s taking on projects for “fun.” Yep, Lane would accept the offer if it involves travel, pay, and fun! “Any one of those three will get me off my mountain and back to work,” he explained.
Luckily, the General Hospital gig had all three! Currently, Davies splits his time between his home in Georgia and working with the Prague Shakespeare Company in the Czech Republic. Anyway, he is excited to be back on General Hospital and act alongside Grahn again. Although his current stint is short, Davies is open to returning for more if asked. In addition, Davies said, “It’s always fun to work with Nancy. And I like camera work.”
However, the soap actor admitted to not doing much of it anymore, calling himself semi-retired or LAZY! Nevertheless, it fits Lane’s lifestyle of extreme slothfulness mixed with occasional bursts of energy and productivity. “It suits that rhythm quite well.” Lane’s return to General Hospital has us buzzing!
