‘GH’ Star Dominic Zamprogna Reflects on Emotional Final Scenes with Kelly Monaco!
Kelly Monaco shared her final scenes on General Hospital with co-star Dominic Zamprogna. He opened up about filming the emotional goodbye. Keep reading to find out what he said about her unexpected departure from the soap opera.
Dominic Zamprogna Praises Working With Kelly Monaco
General Hospital fans were slow to accept the end of Jason and Sam (JaSam.) But they slowly warmed to the pairing of Dante and Sam. Dominic Zamprogna joined General Hospital as Dante Falconeri in 2009, six years after Kelly Monaco debuted as Sam McCall in 2003.
Despite working on the same soap, Sam and Dante only had occasional interactions until 2021, when their friendship turned romantic. Working alongside Kelly Monaco allowed Dominic Zamprogna the chance to really get to know her.
He told Soap Opera Digest that the actress isn’t as tough as she appears. “I got to know Kelly in a way that I’d never known her before. And she’s a remarkable person. She’s tough as nails and admirable in so many ways, and it’s been cool to become a friend of hers. And that won’t end. It’s just that there is still an ending because you’re not working with someone anymore.”
Their Final Scenes
Sam McCall passed away on-screen on Wednesday, October 30, after successfully making it through surgery to donate her liver to Lulu. Her loved ones, including her mother Alexis, and former husband Jason Morgan, came in to say their goodbyes. Kelly Monaco’s last scenes on GH were with Zamprogna when Dante came in to bid farewell to his fiance. He had just proposed before Sam took an unexpected turn for the worst.
“My monologues were her last scenes, so we finished those scenes and I basically said good-bye to Kelly then and there. She was amazing. Amazing, amazing, amazing,” he gushed to SOD.
Could GH Resurrect Sam McCall?
Dominic Zamprogna temporarily left General Hospital in 2017. He shared his thoughts about GH‘s decision to fire Kelly Monaco. He echoed Wally Kurth’s statement that getting let go is a normal part of being an actor.
“There are not a lot of shows that are on the air as long as GH. There are not a lot of actors who can say they’ve been on a show for one year, let alone 21 years. I think sometimes you don’t want to know what life will be like without it because you’re so used to something,” Zamprogna said.
He added that there’s always a chance Kelly Monaco could return. “It’s a soap. Who the heck knows what’s gonna happen?”
