Chief John “Jack” Brennan has been part of General Hospital since 2023. However, the character might soon be sporting a new face. Charles Mesure is leaving the series with another actor taking on the character.
Actor Charles Mesure Has Already Given His Final Performance As Jack Brennan
Charles Mesure made his debut on General Hospital as Jack Brennan on December 1, 2023. By 2024, Mesure was promoted to a contract role on the soap.
Beforehand, the British-born Australian actor appeared in a variety of shows throughout Oceania and the United States. Some of his earlier roles included appearances on Desperate Housewives, Once Upon a Time, The Magicians, and Dead of Summer.
As Soap Opera Digest reported, however, Mesure is expected to soon be leaving the role. A spokesperson for the soap confirmed that Mesure was leaving of his own accord.
The source shared the following statement: “Charles Mesure opted to exit the role of Brennan. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Mesure has already given his final performance as Brennan, playing him for the last time on Thursday, January 30. However, this will not be the end of the character. In fact, a new actor will play the part by February 4.
The New Jack Brennan Is Set To Be Played By A Soap Opera Vet
Taking on the role is Chris McKenna, who is well established in the world of soap operas. He has also appeared on One Life to Live, The Young and the Restless, and The Bold and the Beautiful. The spokesperson shared, “General Hospital looks forward to continuing Brennan’s exciting storyline with Chris McKenna in the role.”
Notably, McKenna’s been working on soaps since he was at least 12 years old, where he played Joey Buchanan on One Life to Live. In 2014, he told the publication, “It was a big deal and remember that fondly.”
At the time, McKenna was making his return to soaps with The Young and the Restless. During his conversation with the publication, he noted, “It’s been so great to revisit those daytime roots. I was kind of thrown into the fire at Y&R and it could’ve been a potentially nerve-wracking experience for me, but it turned out to be a great experience.”
Since the recast was announced, fans have been questioning one thing. The character of Brennan reflects Mesure’s real-life Australian background. This has fans wondering if McKenna, a native of Queens, will play the character with an Australian accent or not.
