Carly Corinthos is always up in everyone’s business on GH. Laura Wright celebrates twenty years in the role later this year. She was the fourth actress to play the part. Sarah Brown originated Carly in 1996. She left the show in 2001 and Tamara Braun took over. Jennifer Bransford briefly played Carly after Tamara Braun left. Laura Wright took over the role in 2005 and has made it her own.
Before starring on GH, the actress played Cassie Winslow from 1996 until 2005. She got her start playing Ally Wescott on Loving and later on The City.
Though they’re not currently in a relationship, Carly recently had a chat with her ex-husband, Sonny, played by Maurice Benard. He finally admitted that he had to undergo emergency heart surgery and she convinced him to let her come along for support.
Fans may have noticed something odd about the scene. Laura Wright sat on a stool in Carly’s kitchen for the entire scene. It turns out that she suffered a painful injury that changed the scene a little bit.
The actress told Soap Opera Digest that an injury to her knee caused the show to accommodate her by letting her sit for her scenes that day. What happened?
She revealed that she was injured playing pickleball. She usually plays with her boyfriend, former GH actor Wes Ramsey. The two met back when they were both on Guiding Light. They reconnected in 2017 and have been in a relationship since. But that day, she was playing pickleball solo.
She explained that her knee popped out of joint when she was running to hit a backhand shot. The injury quickly fixed itself and popped back in. According to Laura Wright, her knee was sore, but wasn’t too painful. But the initial injury wasn’t what caused her problems on set.
After the injury, she went to a tennis tournament with Wes Ramsey. “I was up and down stairs at the stadium, walking all over the grounds for four days,” she told SOD. That over-activity on the injured knee came back to haunt her when she returned to work.
“I went to get up and move, just stand up and walk, and my knee popped out again,” she told the outlet. Since she couldn’t move much without pain, the show redid the blocking so she could sit down.
That’s why Carly was on the stool so much in recent episodes. Laura Wright admitted it was “frustrating” as an actress now to be able to move during the scenes. How is she doing now?
GH Actress Shares Health Update
The scenes of Carly sitting were filmed a while ago. Laura Wright revealed that her injured knee is still healing. “I’ve been wearing a brace if I’m doing anything [requiring significant movement] and I’m just being super-mindful,” she told SOD.
She also joked that from now on, she will only play doubles with Wes Ramsey and will no longer play singles matches.
