General Hospital actor Chad Duell had played Michael Corinthos for over a decade. However, the character was recently written off the show in a way that left many fans shocked. Since then, Duell talked about the events on the show with one of his former co-stars.
Chad Duell Recently Spoke With His Former Onscreen Father
Duell was first announced as Michael on the soap back in 2010. At the time, he was taking on the role from Drew Garrett.
However, in 2024, Duell announced that he would be leaving the soap in over a decade. With no immediate plans to recast the character, fans had been speculating on just how Michael would be written off the soap.
Earlier this month, Michael was caught in a fire set at his adoptive father Sonny Corinthos’ penthouse. It appeared that this could be the soap’s way of writing off Michael, or at least Duell, from the series.
As noted by Michael Fairman TV, Duell sat down with Maurice Benard, who plays Sonny, for his “State of Mind” podcast series. While there, Duell talked about his choice to leave the show and how Michael would leave the show.
Duell noted that General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini was “very understanding. The door is open there for me when I am ready to come back.” Notably, this ties in well with the fan theory that Michael would be away in recovery rather than truly dying from the fire.
Duell Felt He Was ‘Unbelievably Blessed’ For His Time On The Show
The actor also noted he was impressed with how his character was written off. As he noted, “It was really good what they did and I think it’s going to turn out really well. I’m glad they did that and not a typical I blow up or I get shot and I’m gone.”
Looking back, Duell felt that the time was right for him to leave. As he shared, “I’ve been there 15 years now. I just want to catch my breath, and step back on possibly down the line with a different perspective and a new respect and everything. A lot if it is a reset for me in a lot of ways, personal ways, that I don’t want to get into, but there are other reasons.”
“There are a lot of changes also in my life. I just want to take some time to maybe go home for a bit and for [his son] Dawson to be around his niece and nephews and just some family; as I feel like we’ve just been in this bubble and some time in Arizona might be good.”
Duell also noted that he felt “unbelievably blessed” for his time on the show. He also emphasized how he “had so many great people to work with all of this time.”
