General Hospital Mourns Another Loss- Cause Of His Death

On September 15, 2023, General Hospital and its loyal viewers were shaken by the heartbreaking news of Craig Oliver Sjodin’s passing. A man who toiled tirelessly behind the scenes, Craig’s departure leaves a void not just in the television industry but also in the hearts of those who knew him best. With heavy hearts, we pay tribute to his life and legacy, recounting the remarkable journey of a man whose talent and enthusiasm left an indelible mark.

General Hospital: Craig Was, And Will Always Be Special

Craig was born on October 26, 1955, in Evanston, Illinois. He spent a remarkable 39 years working for ABC TV’s show General Hospital and Disney, doing something unique – taking pictures. He wasn’t an actor or director, but his photos made TV shows special. Have you ever watched The Bachelor or its spinoffs? Those beautiful pictures of contestants holding roses were Craig’s work. He retired just last month, excited to go on adventures with his family, exploring places like Australia.

Let’s reflect on how we had to say goodbye to Craig – a photographer at General Hospital, and it’s truly heart-wrenching. On that sorrowful day, September 15, 2023, a terrible bicycle accident took him away from us. The pain runs deep because Craig wasn’t just a photographer. He was an avid cyclist, finding solace and happiness on those two wheels. He would often pedal for miles, embracing the beauty of the world as he rode.

GH/Remembering Craig Oliver Sjodin

This shared love for cycling was a bond he cherished with close friends like Brenda and Dave Rickey. They had many joyful rides together. In fact, just this summer, they came together for a family reunion in the serene Geneva area. Where they all went cycling, creating cherished memories. It’s a cruel twist of fate that the very thing that brought Craig so much joy also became the source of our profound sorrow.

Craig leaves behind his loving wife, Esther Bekhore Sjodin, and their son, Ryan. His sisters, Brenda, Nancy, and Linda, also feel his loss. He is survived by his niece, Kerri, and grand-nieces Avery and Grace Lane. He was full of life and always made people smile, even at 67 years old.

We want to thank the friends and loved ones who rushed to be with Craig at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center after the accident. They stayed by his side during the painful eight days before he left us. They continue to support his family as they try to cope with this sad time. As we remember Craig Oliver Sjodin, we also remember the happiness he brought to our lives. Though he’s no longer with us, his laughter, his love, and his talent will forever remain in our hearts.
