‘General Hospital’ Fans Tear Cameron Mathison Apart, Why?

Cameron Mathison has taken on various roles over the years. Notably, a few years back, he joined the cast of General Hospital as Drew Cain. However, fans of the soap have recently shared some mixed feelings they have about the actor. Notably, it has even led to a discussion on social media.
Cameron Mathison Took Over The Role Of Drew On General Hospital In 2021
Mathison’s big breakout into soap was playing Ryan Lavery on All My Children. Cast in 1997, he first appeared as the character towards the start of 1998.
Leaving the role in 2011, Mathison has had various roles over the years. this has included playing Mike Kingston in the Murder, She Baked series and serving as a correspondent for Good Morning America.

However, Mathison’s big return to soaps would be in 2021, when he took over the role of Drew Cain on General Hospital. Beforehand, the role had been played by Billy Miller and even Steve Burton, who plays Drew’s brother Jason on the soap.
That said, fans have had mixed views on Mathison taking on the role. Taking to Reddit, as one fan noted, “GH‘s biggest mistake was bringing in Cameron Mathison as Drew Quartermaine.”
As the fan continued, “Making CM Drew was definitely a big mistake…they should have just brought him in as his All My Children character of Ryan Lavery and have Ryan cross over to Port Charles from Pine Valley.”
Some Fans Suggested Mathison Must Really Be Doing His Job To Get This Reaction
“[The soap] could have had Ryan jump in at Crimson or even had Ryan come in at The Invader. Making him Ryan would have made much more sense.”
Taking to the credits, many fans shared that they agreed with the original poster. A few even compared Mathison’s performance as Drew with other characters he’s played.

However, others felt that it wasn’t Mathison’s fault, as the character wasn’t supposed to be like, suggested the actor was doing a great job. Some comments include:
- “Agree. It was a mistake as him as Drew. CM shouldn’t have even come to GH. I rather have Vincent Irizarry as Dr. David Hayward on the show. At least he has ties to Anna and we could always use more doctors!”
- “Definitely a big mistake. He’s so smarmy I will not ever be able to watch him in any other shows, including Hallmark et al. I really didn’t love him in Pine Valley either…. And no, it’s not because of Jason or Billy Miller. I just don’t like him.”
- “I don’t understand why they brought back the character back at all… drew is kind of a dead end character”
- “I think we are supposed to hate him on every level. He’ll either be dead or totally transformed in the next 12 months!”
- “Drew’s fine. He found his role as a villain that has all the worst aspects of the Q’s. People just need to realize the original Drew character was meant to be Jason and wasn’t meant to exist on its own outside of being Jason.”
