Why Chad Duell Left General Hospital
Chad Duell stepped into the role of legacy character Michael Corinthos in 2010, replacing Drew Garrett. Viewers watched Duell take Sonny and Carly’s son through many life milestones, including multiple marriages, kids, and drama.
The actor made the shocking announcement in late 2024 that he was leaving the show. After nearly 15 years of playing Michael Corinthos, he was ready to move on to other things.
One of those things was to be a more present parent to his one-year-old son. Chad Duell welcomed his first child with his girlfriend Luana Lucci in September 2023.
Another personal issue that prompted his exit was the recent loss of his father. Chad Duell was a guest on The Daily Drama podcast hosted by his GH co-stars Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson shortly after announcing his exit. According to PEOPLE magazine, Duell told his co-stars that the loss played a part in his decision to leave the soap.
“A lot of stuff’s been going on in my life. There’s a few things behind it but one thing I did say is my dad passed away and I’m still coming to terms with that,” – Chad Duell, PEOPLE magazine.
Will Michael Return?
Spoilers initially indicated that General Hospital planned to kill off Michael Corinthos. But in a plot twist, he survived a fire but was sent overseas for treatment. The character still plays an important part of the soap’s storyline even if he’s off-screen.
Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) is pregnant with Michael’s baby after a one-night stand but Jason (Steve Burton) is pretending to be the father. at least for now. The storyline practically sets up Michael’s eventual return, but will Chad Duell play him?
He said on The Daily Drama podcast that the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, left the door open for him to come back to the soap in the future.
Popular Soap Star Shares Life Update With Fans
Fans shouldn’t expect to see Chad Duell back on General Hospital any time soon, though. He’s living his best life with his girlfriend and young son. He took to Instagram to share his latest adventure since leaving the show.
He revealed that he went horseback riding with his girlfriend, Luana. The actor shared a series of snapshots from the adventure. One photo shows the hills of California in the background. Another photo features a bustling city down below.
GH fans loved the update and were happy to see Chad Duell relaxing and having a good time. Even though viewers won’t see him on screen, they can stay up to date with him through his social media posts.
