Giovanni Mazza has been an entertainer since he was very young. Recently, he made his debut into the world of soaps with General Hospital. With the new year, the actor recently shared what it was like joining the series. He also addressed certain rumors concerning his character, Gio.
Giovanni Mazza Has Been Entertaining People Since He Was Nine
Mazza has been an entertainer since he was young. In 2015, at nine years old, he was discovered by the Chicago Bulls Youth Talent Search thanks to his talent with the violin. Over the years, he’s played his violin for a variety of games.
Mazza is also an actor as well as a musician. Notably, he appeared on the Nickelodeon series, Bella and the Bulldogs. Back in 2024, he joined the cast of General Hospital as Giovanni “Gio” Palmieri.
On the soap, the character was introduced as a relative of the Cerullo family. However, some fans speculate he might have more family in Port Charles.
More specifically, one popular fan theory has Gio be the possible son of Dante Falconeri and Brook Lynn Quartermaine. In addition, some fans suspect sparks are about to fly between Gio and Braeden Bruner’s Emma Drake.
In a recent interview, Mazza himself hinted that his character will be at the heart of various twists and stories on the soap. The actor recently spoke with Too Fab about how the soap has changed his life.
The Actor Admitted Even His Family Asks About The Character’s Story
Mazza started out talking about what it was like joining the soap. He shared, “How it all happened was I came out to L.A. to sort of pursue acting at the age of 18. I was 18 when I moved out here.”
“I was just supposed to come out for two months, just to sort of train, see what it was like. General Hospital happened to be my very first in-person audition. And I’ve been here for about eight or nine months now.”
Regarding a lot of the fan theories concerning the character, Mazza also teased that something “very big” was “coming up” on the soap. However, he couldn’t reveal too much.
As the actor noted, “That’s what the fans would be very, very excited for. Because the last nine months, I’ve sort of been involved in building my relationships. But now, we’re really going to explore who my character Gio [Palmieri] is.”
Mazza admitted that even his family has asked about who his character could be related to. He shared, “What’s really fun is when my family asks what I think. One of my cousins just texted me the other day. He’s like, ‘Is so-and-so your parents?’ And I’m like, ‘What do you think? I want to know what you think first.’”
The actor continued, “And then I’ll know what I could play into.” He also noted, “It sort of helps me in a way to know what the fan speculation is, to sort of play around with different relationships.”
“There was one person that my mom thought I might be related to. And I was like, ‘Hmm, well, I can play around with that, see what the audience thinks of that. It’s all just to sort of creating a really fun experience for the audience.”
