Marcus Coloma Is Recovering from Heart Surgery

Marcus Coloma

Please join us in sending some healing vibes to former General Hospital star Marcus Coloma (ex-Nikolas), who had heart surgery on Nov. 11! The actor shared the news with his followers in an Instagram Reel he posted a few days after the procedure!

The video is of Coloma playing an original tune on his piano, interspersed with footage of the actor in his hospital bed. In a voiceover, Coloma opened up about the scary situation that led to the operation.

“For the last three or four years, there was this secret thought in my head that I was dying,” he confessed. “And I knew I was being dramatic, but it was still there, and it was depressing. And there was something wrong, but no one could tell me what it was.”

It wasn’t until a physical therapist checked Coloma’s heart that he got on the road to getting some answers. “He’s like, ‘Wow, that’s weird.’ And that opened the door,” the actor explained. “I ended up going to a cardiologist and having the procedure done, and he said, ‘In 40 years, thousands of surgeries, I have never seen a heart like yours.’

“We all knew my heart was one in a million, right?” the actor quipped, adding that his medical issue has — thankfully! — been resolved. “The good news is, now that it’s fixed, there won’t be any more problems, and I should be healthy. And I’m very grateful.”

Naturally, Coloma’s video message was met with well-wishes from his followers, many of whom shared their own experiences with cardiac procedures. In those exchanges, Coloma revealed that he had a cardiac ablation, which is a minimally invasive procedure to treat irregular heartbeats, called arrhythmias. The GH alum explained that his medical issue was caused by “extra fiber” (presumably the muscular fiber surrounding the heart, and not the dietary kind) as well as “an extra pathway that was causing a constant elevated heart rate.”

Knowing what was causing him to feel somewhat off for the past several years was a huge relief, Coloma admitted in reply to another comment. “I can’t believe how much better it feels, just knowing what was going on, and that it’s done!”

We are so glad to hear that Coloma is feeling better — both physically and mentally! We wish him well as he continues to recover from his surgery!
