The My Big Fat Fabulous Life reality star remembers being made fun of as a child for her body size. At the age of ten, she was given the nickname “Thunder Thighs.” Yet, at the time, she was only 90 pounds. The “stinging shame” followed her through middle and high school.
In high school, Whitney developed an eating disorder hoping she would never be called “fat” again. But, as an adult, she did become the person she hoped she wouldn’t.
Whitney Wants Legal Protection
Whitney now embraces being a larger woman as a part of her identity. She has worked so hard to accept who she is. However, she knows that people in real life and online can be “real jerks” to larger people. She even finds it absurd that it is “perfectly legal” to discriminate against someone based on their body size.
However, the My Big Fat Fabulous Life cast member doesn’t want to live in a country where only two states have “explicit protections against body size discrimination.” So, she is taking a stand and raising awareness for the “injustices around body size discrimination.”
Whitney is partnering with companies and organizations to “advance legal protections” across America based on body size. She doesn’t want people to face discrimination and not feel protected. So, she is signing a petition to help get the protection people need.

Whitney Thore noticed a rapid weight gain in her early twenties. She then found out that she has polycystic ovarian syndrome. It caused her to gain a bunch of weight. It has been a battle for the TLC celeb. But she always tries to remain optimistic about her situation.
