When it came to celebrating his wife’s birthday, General Hospital star Maurice Benard (Sonny) knew he wanted to make it extra special. And that meant surprising Paula with a dinner table full of extra-special guests.
“I gotta tell you, I really wanted my wife to be surprised because to me, that is the ultimate,” Benard shared on Instagram. “There are people there that she probably hasn’t seen in a long time. I am really happy that I was able to bring that kind of joy to her. It was a great night with great family and friends and good food. Happy Birthday, Paula!”
In the video, Paula enters the restaurant clearly expecting a birthday dinner as she’s wearing a sash that reads “Aged to Perfection.” However, it’s clear from her reaction when she sees everyone gathered at the table, that she wasn’t expecting all of them to be there! After a warm embrace with her son, Joshua, Paula wipes away tears and hugs her husband. She then pretends to be annoyed for a second before going in to hug Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda), one of the special guests in attendance.
The Benards were married on Aug. 11, 1990, and they have raised four children together — son Joshua and daughters Cailey, Heather, and Cassidy. Through good times and bad, it’s clear that these two are still very much in love with each other.
“It’s my wife’s birthday,” the GH actor posted on Sept. 24 with a video of her dancing with granddaughter TT. “I love seeing her with so much joy. She doesn’t get to let go very often because she has to take care of the world. I’m deeply in love. I met her when she was 16. And I love her now more than ever.”
