Grey’s Anatomy Season 20: Will Ellen Pompeo return as Meredith Grey?
Season 19 was a big one for Grey’s Anatomy. It saw the exit of Meredith Grey. Will Ellen Pompeo return to the series in Grey’s Anatomy Season 20?
We thought that Ellen Pompeo’s exit from Grey’s Anatomy would mean the end of the series. However, the show found a way to make the exit of the titular character work. New interns came in, bringing in a fresh feeling that also connected back to the original days of the show.
Meredith was in a few episodes. She started off the season with intentions to stay in Seattle, only to realize that her daughter, Zola, needed more support. She needed a better school, and that school was in Boston. Would she move? When given the opportunity to find a cure for Alzheimer’s, you bet it
However, it wasn’t the end of Meredith in the series. We did see her return toward the end of the season. This offers hope that she’ll be back again.
Will Ellen Pompeo return in Grey’s Anatomy Season 20?
It’s hard to say exactly what will happen in Grey’s Anatomy Season 20. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have prevented production on the show. This is the first time—except for the first season when the show came up as a midseason series—that it isn’t part of the fall schedule for ABC. TGIT won’t feel the same at all.
This does open the door for Meredith’s return. With fewer episodes to the season, we could see her pop in for an episode. It also reduces the chances of her return. There is going to be a lot of ground to cover in fewer episodes than normal. We may not even get 13 episodes at this rate.
What we hope to hear is Meredith’s voiceovers still. Despite Pompeo leaving, she did stick around to do the voiceovers for the opening and closing of the episodes. There is a chance she’ll be back for that, especially since it requires less work for Pompeo than being on screen.
